ABSTRACT

The HIV/AIDS transmission can occur from mother infected HIV/AIDS positive to her baby during pregnancy, giving birth and breast feed. e.. . Until now there has been no research in Indonesia that revealed what it is like being a postpartum HIV-infected mother. The aims of this research is  to explore deeply about mother experience after giving birth with HIV/AIDS.
This research applied qualitative  approach using phenomenology. The data was obtained using  in dept interview to six post partum women with HIV/AIDS. All participants were  sundanese muslim people  with age between 24 – 35 years old,.  The result of interview is analyzed by using Georgi method.
The results of this research reveal 6 themes: Variation in loss response : denial, sadness, despair, and accepted; Worried about the future : worried about their children's future, worry over the economy, and fear of death. Willingness  to maintain good health : Willingness to heal and stay healthy, doingprayer, using  condoms, and taking medication (ARVS). Developing various physical problems : the presence of a physical response against the disease, and weight loss.  Impaired social interaction related to   stigma against HIV/AIDS : Feeling of shame  to the family and community, feeling of  discrimination when using health services, and disruption of social interaction.
It can be concluded that postpartum mothers with HIV / AIDS experience a complex problems due to their physical condition accompanied by discrimination from family, society and the health care providers. Therefore it needs serious attention from health care providers, especially doctors and nurses. Nurses should provide mentoring or counseling for postpartum mothers with HIV / AIDS in order to increase their motivation to maintain good health and regular ARV treatment.
